Getting there

Travel & Lodging

San Juan Island sits in the Salish Sea, northwest of Seattle. There's no bridge, so plan on a ferry or a seaplane. Give yourself a full travel day and aim to arrive Friday. If you'd like to arrive on Saturday, plan to stay in Anacortes or somewhere close by on Friday night so you can catch a morning ferry.

Wedding day shuttle

We'll have a shuttle running from downtown Friday Harbor to the venue on the wedding day, so you won't need a car to get to the farm. If you'd rather drive, the farm has about 40 parking spots for guests.

Walking onto the ferry is a great option. Most places to stay are right in the heart of downtown Friday Harbor, just a few minutes' walk from the ferry.

By ferry

Washington State Ferries runs from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Anacortes is about 90 minutes north of Seattle by car. The crossing takes 65 to 90 minutes depending on the sailing.

Vehicle reservations open two months out and go fast on spring weekends. Walk-on passengers never need a reservation.

  • Walk on. No reservation needed. Park at the Anacortes terminal and walk on; most places to stay are a few minutes' walk from the Friday Harbor ferry landing, and we'll have a shuttle to the venue on the wedding day.
  • Or bring your car. Reservations for late April open about two months ahead, in late February. Set a reminder. A reservation is the difference between a 20-minute wait and a four-hour one.
  • Arrive 30 to 45 minutes early for reserved sailings, or you forfeit the spot.

Things to do on the island

Most guests will have Friday afternoon and Sunday free. A few favorites:

  • Cattle Point Lighthouse

A beautiful viewpoint, really close to the farm. A short walk from the parking area at the south tip of the island, with views across the strait.

  • Lime Kiln Point State Park

The best shore-based whale watching in the country. Orcas pass close to the rocks, most often in summer, but spring sightings happen.

  • Roche Harbor

A historic resort village at the north end with a marina, sculpture park, and a good brunch.

  • San Juan Island National Historical Park

American Camp and English Camp, from the 1859 "Pig War." Prairie, beaches, and easy trails.

  • Friday Harbor

Walkable downtown by the ferry landing: coffee, bookshops, the Whale Museum, and the San Juan Island Brewing taproom.

  • Pelindaba Lavender Farm

Fields are quiet in April, but the shop is open and the drive out is pretty.

Parking & getting around

The farm has 40 parking spaces. Carpool from town if you can. The property is open to guests only during event hours, so plan to leave with your ride.
